Demystifying MDP

We’ve had a lot of questions about MDP (Multi-Dimensional Processing), mostly “umm… what the heck is MDP?” So allow us to dispel the mystery that is MDP!

MDP is the newest technology to come out in our BOSS Pedals, and is built-in to our recently released TE-2, MO-2 and DA-2. MDP is a way for the pedal to interpret what the guitarist is playing and provide the right effect at the right time.

In the case of the TE-2, for example, this means that by playing with less attack, or by rolling out your volume pot, you can achieve more classic “slapback” style delays, found in pedals like the BOSS DD-3. Add a little more pick attack, and get more tape echo style delays. All the way up to heavily modulated combos that add spaciousness to the sound not found in any pedal before.

The best part about this is that it’s completely dynamic and real time. MDP means that you can control the effect by using everything from how you play, (open strums, palm mutes, single note leads, hammer-ons and tapping) to varying where on the guitar neck you’re playing, along with the position of your volume pot, to pull the right sound out of your TE-2 at exactly the right time.

MDP is technologically advanced without a doubt. But the best part about it is that it allows the player to feel their effect, and create it like never before. It’s more than tweaking a few knobs on a stomp box and playing along with that effect. Using MDP you get to actually play these pedals by using your guitar.

Yeah, we’re excited. You should be too! The TE-2, MO-2 and DA-2 will be in stores soon. Go check one out for yourself and let us know what you think!
